Founder FAQs
Who are the ARLIS Founders?
ARLIS was created by merging the staff and collections of eight Anchorage natural resources agency libraries. The original founding agencies continue to fund ARLIS and provide public access. Agencies may become founding agencies by making a commitment for on-going support of ARLIS at a significant level. Founding agencies have representation on the ARLIS Founders Board that governs the library.

What services are available to Founders?
See Founder Services.
How do I know if I'm a Founder or entitled to Founder privileges?
You are eligible for Founder access to the ARLIS website if you are employed with one of the Alaska-based agencies that provide funding support for ARLIS. Occasionally, an agency makes a request to grant Founder services to a volunteer, intern or contractee.
How do I register?
If you work for a Founding Agency, but have not yet registered click here to activate the online registration form. ARLIS staff will process your request, and you will be notified by email when your login is available for use.
What are the benefits of Founder access?
While the ARLIS collection is available for use by the general public, Founders pay for and receive additional services. These include desktop services from any computer, daily courier delivery of requested items, expert assistance with research and interlibrary loans, document delivery, free parking via parking code, and digitizing services upon request.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services via ILLiad
Does ARLIS provide interlibrary loan services?
ARLIS provides document delivery services electronically to agency desktops and can borrow books from libraries worldwide for Founding agency patrons and Contributing members. ILLiad services can be viewed on the ILLiad Services page. Visitors may qualify for ILL services through the Anchorage Public Library. The UAA/APU Consortium Library Provides ILL services for qualifying students and faculty.
How do I request materials?
Log into the Founder's area with your patron ID and pin and click on ILLiad. ILLiad is your interlibrary loan interface. It is where you will request items, check their status, and receive electronic requests. ARLIS interlibrary loan department also accepts phone (907-786-7679) and email requests (ill@arlis.org). Copies are delivered electronically. Books are couriered daily within Anchorage and mailed to agencies in outlying areas.
How do I find out the ARLIS Parking Code?
Contact your agency librarian or call the ARLIS reference desk at 27-ARLIS.
My agency is not listed. Can we become Founders?
Yes. In 1997, ARLIS was founded through a Memorandum of Understanding among partner agencies, known as Founders. A Founder share for ARLIS includes a seat at the Founders Board. Contributors receive negotiated services via a service contract and annual billing. Interested parties should email the ARLIS reference desk, reference@arlis.org. A Management Team representative will contact you to discuss the benefits, costs, and details.
