Description
Summary:This study is being conducted as part of a series of studies to be submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for licensing of the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project in Alaska. Operations of the proposed project would likely affect the abundance and distribution of benthic algae and benthic macroinvertebrate populations, which could ultimately affect fish growth and productivity in the freshwater ecosystem. The chief goal of Study 9.8 is to collect baseline data to assist in evaluating the effects of Project-induced changes in flow and the interrelated environmental factors (temperature, substrate, water quality) upon the benthic macroinvertebrate and algal communities in the middle and lower Susitna River. This document details Alaska Energy Authority's status in implementing the study in 2014, during which four field activities were conducted focusing on data collection to support trophic modeling and stable isotope analysis.
