Summary: | Public comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Alaska LNG Project closed on October 3, and they totaled few in number, but were substantial in content. Comments filed by government agencies, organizations, business groups, and public citizens were both supportive and opposing. This paper summaries the arguments against the findings in the DEIS in regards to a multitude of concerns such as environmental effects, routing through Denali National Park and Preserve and Ahtna land, location of LNG terminal, access roads, effect on climate change, setnetters, and open cut trenching. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is asking for alterntive construction designs, as the Cook Inlet crossing is of concern. |
