Summary: | The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. (AGDC) meet in Washington, D.C. on March 22 to review questions on the proposed Alaska LNG project. FERC stated it wants more details of mitigation measures to protect wildlife and public land (such as lessening user conflicts for wildlife resources on public lands) during construction and operation. This includes preventing noxious and invasive plants from spreading along the pipeline right-of-way. The timeline for action was discussed. FERC requires that the environmental impact statement consider project alternatives, such as the Port MacKenzie and Valdez options. Other issues discussed were Nikiski highway routing, Cook Inlet area pipeline routing, wetlands, work space along right-of-way, groundwater monitoring plans, sediment transport modeling, ichthyoplankton, beluga whales, visual impacts, and air quality. |
