Summary: | The U.S. Federal Inspector released "Report to the President on the construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System" on January 1992 which makes recommendations such as repealing ANGTA, terminating agreements with Canada, and shutting down the Office of the Federal Inspector (in order to enable export of gas to the Pacific Rim by means of a trans-Alaska pipeline). This diplomatic note from the Canadian Embassy is a response to that report. Noting such actions are counter to previous U.S. commitments to natural gas agreements with Canada, the Canadian government points to six of ten recommendations that are relevant to Canada, and expects the United States to honor all prior agreements. |
