Summary:Construction activities of a natural gas pipeline may disturb earth-atmosphere thermal balance that may, if unmitigated, degrade existing permafrost. This study was conducted to determine approaches to thaw-related concerns during construction of the Alaska segment of the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System. Geothermal analysis methodology is described. Results of geothermal simulations conducted north and south of Atigun Pass are presented.
