Description
Summary:This study is being conducted to develop a fish passage strategy in support of the license application for the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project. Various alternatives to fish passage are being studied with consideration to engineering, biological, sociological, and economic factors. The study's object is to investigate three basic strategies related to fish passage: (1) the proposed Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project without fish passage, (2) integration of upstream and downstream passage features into the current dam design, and (3) the retrofit of upstream and downstream fish passage features to a dam designed without passage. The study area includes the Susitna River from the confluence of Portage Creek (Project river mile 152.3) upstream to the confluence of the Oshetna River (Project river mile 235.1). This report describes Alaska Energy Authority's efforts in pursuing the study during 2014 and covers the methods and results of the study. It is intended to supplement Part A of the Initial Study Report published in June 2014.
