In order to assess these potential effects of the Project, baseline data is being collected for the development of appropriate protection, mitigation, and enhancement measures. As used here, "waterbirds" is applied broadly to include swans, geese, ducks, loons, grebes, cranes, cormorants, herons, gulls, and terns, but excludes shorebirds (they are included in Study 10.16). The study area encompasses a 3-mile buffer zone around the Project area (access routes, transmission lines, inundation zone, and facilities) with several extensions to include certain water bodies, and includes the proposed Denali corridor (within the Nenana River watershed). Aerial and ground-based surveys were conducted. This document is a comprehensive discussion of the methods and results of the study since the beginning of the study program in 2013 through 2014, and represents the completion report.
