| Summary: | This technical memorandum describes some of the methods, variances, and preliminary results of the 2014 salmon escapement study (Study 9.7 of the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project). The methods, variances focus on the middle and upper rivers (primarily the Susitna River), and the preliminary results focus on chinook salmon. The methods include capturing, tagging, and tracking adult salmon in the Susitna and Yentna rivers; determining migration behavior and spawning locations of radio-tagged fish in the Susitna River; characterizing adult salmon migration within and above Devils Canyon; documenting salmon spawning locations in turbid waters; comparing historical and current data on run timing, distribution, abundance, and spawning locations of salmon; counting chinook salmon spawning in the Susitna River and its tributaries; and collecting tissue samples for the fish genetics study. |
