Description
Summary:This study is being conducted as part of a series of studies to be submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for licensing of the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project in Alaska. The objectives for this study are to inventory and document baseline aesthetic (e.g. visual and auditory) conditions within the study area and evaluate the potential effects to aesthetic resources that may result from construction and operation of the proposed project. The analysis will focus on assessing these potential effects and will help identify potential design and other mitigation options. The primary study area is defined as a 30-mile buffer zone surrounding Project components (dam, reservoir, transmission lines, access corridors, dam, and camp facilities, and borrow sites). A secondary study area encompasses a region that mostly overlaps the primary area, but covers an area bounded by the George Parks Highway (western boundary), the Denali Highway (northern boundary), the Richardson Highway (eastern boundary), and the Glenn Highway (southern boundary).
