Description
Summary:Information is needed regarding Cook Inlet beluga whales and their prey in the Susitna River and delta to facilitate future analysis of the potential effects that may result from the construction and operation of the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project. The goals of this study are threefold: (1) to provide current, fine scale information on Cook Inlet beluga whale distribution and movements within the Susitna River delta, (2) to correlate these data with information on the ecology and habitat parameters of Cook Inlet beluga whale prey species, including eulachon and Pacific salmon, and (3) to record incidental observations of all marine mammals sighted during beluga whale studies. The study area includes the upper portion of the Cook Inlet, the Susitna River delta, and the river up to river mile 50.
