Description
Summary:This document represents the development of a plan to perform a genetic baseline study for fishes in the Susitna River with particular focus on chinook salmon. That plan is the draft version of: Implementation plan for the genetic baseline study for selected fish species in the Susitna River, Alaska / prepared by Andrew W. Barclay. This study was initially released separately on March 29, 2013, and belongs to Section 9.14 of the Final Study Plan, a plan for the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project. The draft is not included here, but Attachment A constitutes the final version of the plan dated April 30, 2013; both versions were issued by Alaska Division of Commercial Fisheries, then distributed online through Alaska Energy Authority (AEA). Attachment B contains the letter of transmittal from AEA (originally sent to announce the draft and to solicit comments), comments from two agencies, and two meeting notes. Attachment C contains the AEA's responses to those comments. The goals of this study are to (1) acquire genetic material from samples of selected fish species within the Susitna River drainage, (2) characterize the genetic structure of chinook salmon in the Susitna River watershed, and (3) assess the use of lower and middle river habitat by juvenile chinook salmon originating in the middle and upper Susitna River.

Includes letter of transmittal to Kimberly D. Bose, Secretary, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, from Wayne Dyok, Project Manager, Alaska Energy Authority, dated April 30, 2013, which accompanies the three attachments.

Each attachment of this document is also cataloged separately in order to provide details on those portions. All these materials are also assigned numbered SuWa 200.
