From Manville and Young (1965): "The raccoon was introduced on Long Island, near Kodiak, about 1935, and was still present in 1948. In the 1930's fur farmers introduced raccoons on Baranof and Prince of Wales Islands; they are still present on the latter. In 1941 eight black raccoons (from Indiana) were released on Singa Island in southeastern Alaska; they later spread to El Capitan and three other nearby islands. In 1950, tame racoons were released on Japonski Island at Sitka."
Racoons have been either introduced or accidentally released at several locations (Burris and McKnight, 1973).
Populations on Singa, El Capitan, Japonski, and Baranof islands persisted for several years but have not been evident since the early 1970s (MacDonald and Cook, 1996).
