Environment Minister Barry Penner and Joan McIntyre, MLA for West Vancouver-Garibaldi, check on the progress of shoreline cleanup crews on Saturday, Aug. 5, one day after the MV Westwood Annette spilled approximately 30,000 litres of bunker fuel into Howe Sound. Cleanup crews lay protective booms along the shoreline and place collected oil in waste containers. [More photos]

VICTORIA – Schoen Lake Provincial Park, located 140 kilometres north of Campbell River, is currently closed following a cougar attack involving a young boy. The park will re-open Friday, August 25.

SPARWOOD – Sparwood is leading British Columbia in the use of alternative fuel by committing to service its municipally owned vehicles with locally produced biodiesel to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality in the community, Environment Minister Barry Penner announced.
