Who can use ARLIS?

ARLIS is open to the public, as well as members of its founding agencies.

When is ARLIS open?

The library is staffed Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ARLIS is housed in the UAA library building and most of the ARLIS collection is available during the hours the building is open. Check the UAA/APU Consortium Library website for current hours. ARLIS is closed for most holidays observed by both the state and federal government.

Can I check out books?

Most books, reports and other materials are available to be checked out for four weeks with one four-week renewal.

Do I need an ARLIS library card?

ARLIS library cards are available upon request and allow the user to check out up to 25 items for four weeks with one four-week renewal.

ARLIS also honors library cards from the Anchorage Public Libraries and the UAA/APU Consortium Library 

Where do I return books?

ARLIS books may be returned to the book drop inside the library or to the Consortium Library circulation desk.  A book drop is also available outside the UAA Social Sciences Building and books may be returned there any time of day or night.

Books checked out from ARLIS, the Anchorage Public Libraries or the UAA/APU Consortium Library may be returned to any of these cooperating libraries.

What about overdue fines?

Books and other items checked out from ARLIS that become overdue will accrue fines at the rate of $.25 per item per day.  Fines may be paid at the UAA/APU Consortium Library circulation desk or at any Anchorage Public Library.  Fines cannot be paid at ARLIS.  To avoid overdue fines, renew books BEFORE the due date. 

Fines for materials from the Anchorage Public Library or the UAA/APU Consortium Library must be paid at those libraries. ARLIS does not accept fines.

What if I do not live in Anchorage?

ARLIS library cards are available to any Alaska resident living on the road system connecting to Anchorage.

Users who do not live on the road system or live out-of-state may borrow materials by requesting them through interlibrary loan from their local library.

Where do I park at ARLIS?

Parking is available at the UAA Parking Garage or in the surface lot next to the library building. ARLIS provides free one-day parking passes for all library users except UAA students, staff, and faculty.   For details contact the ARLIS reference desk at 27-ARLIS (272-7547).

Can I make photocopies at ARLIS?

Photocopiers are available on the premises and copies are $.15 a page.
