ARLIS shares a catalog and circulation system and participates in cooperative borrowing with Anchorage Public Libraries (APL), UAA/APU Consortium Library (UAA), and Anchorage Museum Atwood Resource Center. ARLIS loans materials to patrons using library cards from any participating library and issues ARLIS cards to eligible founders, sponsored founders, and contributors. Members of the public may be eligible for an ARLIS card, if they do not have a valid card from a partner library. ARLIS cards are issued for a five-year period and may be renewed for eligible patrons.

Founders
Founding agency staff members may receive an ARLIS card even if they have a valid card from a partner library, as an ARLIS card is necessary to access founder services. Founders may register for an ARLIS card by completing the Founder Registration form at the ARLIS website at www.arlis.org. When a patron is no longer employed by a founding agency:
• if the patron has a valid card from a partner library, the record for the ARLIS card is deleted and the ARLIS card is no longer valid;
• if the patron does not have a card from another library and is otherwise eligible for an ARLIS card, the status is changed from Founder to Public and the record is retained.

Sponsored Founders
Staff members of non-founding agencies or organizations and members of the public working closely with founding agencies may be granted founder status by the sponsoring founding agency. Sponsored founders may receive an ARLIS card even if they have a card from another partner library, as an ARLIS card is necessary to access founder services. Sponsored founders may register for an ARLIS card by completing the Founder Registration form at the ARLIS website at www.arlis.org. ARLIS will issue an ARLIS card after receiving written confirmation from the sponsoring agency, which indicates that the agency will be responsible for any lost or damaged library materials the patron may have during the sponsorship period. Sponsorships are typically granted for a 6-month period, dependent upon the length of association with the founding agency, as determined by the founding sponsor, and may be renewed with another written request from the sponsoring agency. Upon expiration of sponsored founder status:
• if the patron has a valid card from a partner library, the record for the ARLIS card is deleted and the ARLIS card is no longer valid;
• if the patron does not have a card from another library and is otherwise eligible for an ARLIS card, the status is changed from Sponsored Founder to Public and the record is retained.

Contributors
Staff members of contributing organizations may receive an ARLIS card even if they have a card from another partner library, as an ARLIS card is necessary to access founder services. Contributors may register for an ARLIS card by completing the Founder Registration form at the ARLIS website at www.arlis.org. When a patron is no longer employed by the contributing organization or the organization is no longer a contributor:
• if the patron has a valid card from a partner library, the record for the ARLIS card is deleted and the ARLIS card is no longer valid;
• if the patron does not have a card from another library and is otherwise eligible for an ARLIS card, the status is changed from Contributor to Public and the record is retained.

UAA Students, Staff, and Faculty
ARLIS accepts valid UAA library cards. UAA-affiliated patrons may receive an ARLIS card if they are a founder, sponsored founder, or contributor. When the patron is no longer a founder, sponsored founder or contributor:
• if the patron has a valid card from a partner library, the record for the ARLIS card is deleted and the ARLIS card is no longer valid;
• if the patron does not have a card from another library and is otherwise eligible for an ARLIS card, the status is changed to Public and the record is retained.

Public
Anchorage residents without a valid library card from a partner library may receive an ARLIS card upon approval of a written application. Photo ID is required.

Out-Of-Town Patrons
Out-of-town patrons are encouraged to borrow ARLIS materials through interlibrary loan from their local library. Remote in-state patrons without local interlibrary loan service may contact the Alaska State Library to find out which regional ILL library serves them.

In-state out-of-town patrons who visit ARLIS may check out ARLIS materials at the UAA/APU Consortium Library via the Reciprocal Borrowing Program, if they meet the program requirements.
