ARLIS’s exceptional of collection of books, reports, maps, etc. highlights Alaska’s natural and cultural resources. Subjects of special interest include fish, wildlife, minerals and mining, and oil exploration. The ARLIS catalog is shared with the Consortium Library of Alaska Pacific University and University of Alaska Anchorage, the Anchorage Public Library, and the Anchorage Musem Bob and Evangeline Atwood Alaska Resource Center.
Our collection contains thousands of maps and atlases, including Alaska Road Commission Maps, Alaska Trail System inventory, Alaska topographic series (USGS), flight line overlays, mining claims overlays, Army map service base maps, city maps, dam sites, flood prone areas, National Wetlands Inventory, Coastal Zone Maps (ADF&G) Alaska Power Study maps, Spetzman vegetation maps, NOAA Maps, and oversized atlases.
A popular collection at
ARLIS is its large selection of Alaskan animal furs, skulls, and bird mounts, available for check-out by any walk-in patron (ARLIS will not mail them due to their fragility). The collection is frequently used by teachers and other educators, camp counselors, artists, and scout groups. ADNR RS2477 Records and Aerial Photos
This collection, compiled by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, pertains to state land associated with Revised Statute 2477. Enacted by Congress as Section 8 of the Mining Law of 1866, and repealed in 1976, RS 2477 granted states and territories unrestricted rights-of-way over federal lands that had no existing reservations or private entries
MAS Files (Mineral Availability System/Mineral Assessment Studies)
The Minerals Availability System (MAS) measured and classified identified mineral resources according to their extraction technologies, economics and commercial availability. The paper and digital files contain information on occurrences, deposits, mines and processing facilities in Alaska.
